Epic Euro excursion

The Italian šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹ trip has begun. The drive to Newcastle to catch the overnight ferry was quite pleasant. The DFDS service is absolutely superb, what a pleasure, all immaculate and a comfortable cabin. the buffet meal and breakfast had endless choice and dozens of attentive staff.
It’s been a long drive from Amsterdam to our next stop here in Munich, top speed on the autobahn was 170mph but petrol disappears fast at that speed and I paid a whopping 2.54euro per litre for the premium stuff on the motorway so probably not worth the time saving.

Some likeminded travellers at the Newcastle terminal

The house we’re in is also old and authentically rustic, we were laughing to ourselves as to what the TV program ā€œfour in a bedā€ would make of it, although immaculate inside and with some modernisation, it’ll never be dust and cob web free. So far we’ve had stark contrast every day, peaceful solitude to bustle, snow to sun, aged and worn to state of the art new.even the people, we parked in a rough area of Bologna and walked to the centre, a homeless Somalian young man with a huge scar the whole length of his face greeted us as we drew up, he looked fearsome and insisted we talk to him, he wanted to know about Scottish football of all things, I wish I’d taken a photo of him, he looked exactly like a pirate from the Captain Philips moviešŸ˜‚ we enjoyed meeting him and the car was still there when we came back.

The one take away from the Pagani visit was it made my Ferrari seem small and plain, they’re not actually much more powerful though and there’s no way they’d make to our house in the hills

Just love the cars, bikes and plane on your tour but I have to say Bologna does look rather special too.

Thanks for sharing your grand tour it's a joy and education to join in.

Today was Pietra Di Bismantova, a geological anomaly with sheer cliffs, can be seen in the distance of the picture with the car.
After that a visit to yet another historical city, famous for food, Parma.

Next best thing to a road trip is enjoying one vicariously through someone else’s photos!

Thank you Ewan and please keep them coming.

Ducatti is now under Audi AG who manage Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati which all fall under the umbrella of VAG, at least this was the latest that was presented to me.

It’s Lamborghini tomorrow but this time a private factory tour by a colleague who does business with them, should be more engineering oriented than the tourist visitor centre.
Today though, glorious Florence, I’d have to say the best city so far, so beautiful and a multitude of interesting sights old and new. Florence is only about 50 miles from where we are but it’s a 150 km drive, the autostrada in the mountains is quite enjoyable though. The best drive in the area was from the mountain to Parma the first half of which was about 20km of constant twists son a two lane road and not a soul around. we also dropped in past the Ferrari factory in Maranello on the way home for a snoop around and to see the current day main entrance, I let my son drive the hours ride home to Albareto from there, since they charge Ā£180 for ten minutes of a car like mine, he’s due me a grand!

The art and history is incredible, they also had a museum of model trains but my son wouldn’t let me go in, he told me to grow up!šŸ˜‚

Florence is one of my all time favourite cities ... had a good few memorable visits ... standing by the Ponte Vecchio looking at the river chock full of goldfish shining on the sun (escapees that flourished I guess) ... and legging it out of town sometime early '70s one step ahead of a cholera outbreak from Naples .. they were spraying the train as we left šŸ™‚ ... as you say, architecture is magical and you can feel the history seeping out of the stones ..... much envy from a dreich, grey Buchan today šŸ™‚
