The car WAS repairable but the original owner demanded a new 'Max. Fair enough. So would I.
You seem to be aware of the situation regarding Aeomax 38 - do you work for MMC, the insurance company or were you very friendly with the, now deceased, owner? Equally, are you the vendor of the car in question?
For reference, the situation you allude to has happened to another car and it did not play out the way you've written it on that occasion.
I'm looking forward to one of the people who think it is such a great car, at a very keen price, putting their money where their mouths are and buying it. As for reputation following the vehicle, I hope so because it deserves to.
As for the RS analogy - anyone who buys one and is incapable of doing the basic checks, isn't buying with their eyes open, nor having it inspected by a professional (anyone worth their salt will have access to the RS book by Dr. Thomas Gruber and Dr. Georg Konradsheim and this would flag up all manner of warning signs if your tale of that specific car is even partly true). The same could be said for this Aeromax; get it inspected and call the relevant people (including the factory).
I do not work for MMC. I am not the vendor. Just airing my views regarding a quite fantastic car. Not this one but generally. The Aeromax is a legend and will surely go north value wise after a few more years. Good ones...
I used the RS comparison as a simple fictional example.
You have two issues with a damaged car. One it's now damaged and Two, will it be written off.
Old classics are like triggers broom. DB Astons are utterly rotten/hiding damage and are torn down to to their Superleggara frame and totally rebuilt. Massive surgery. Much more than this car.
The new "game" of late is recreating historic cars from nowhere and then applying for the log book. RS1600's, Works Cooper S's , a GT40 Spyder I read about and dare I say many many more. All utterly crooked.
They however are not marked as being tainted. This Aeromax is.
This car is simply a victim of modern times. Looking at those crash pics it didn't look too bad. I can't see how a new chassis was required. The door gaps were good.
I certainly wouldn't buy this car but in a perverse sort of way feel sorry for it being an outcast for ever more....
