I have removed my non-heated windscreen and it is as you described. I guess there is a simple connection to remove for the heated screen.
One watch point is the screens is the screws from the pillar to the screen - there should be three and one is shorter than the other two - make sure the short one goes back from where it came or you can/will crack the screen.
Not sure of your cars age but perhaps you might get the modified screen supports as a replacement? Just a thought?
