Oh dear I really must stop responding to this thread.

Oiled foam filters are used where high flow is required and taking into consideration the acceptable COMPROMISE of the subsequent high maintenance in some cases not excluding re-building engines. I state once again that when and oiled filter is used instead of an OEM filter (that is to say with the standard intake) the gains are largely minor and of relatively short duration (as soon as they get dirty they loose the 'high flow' characteristic). The potential downside is makes it not worth the effort. There are non-oiled high flow filters that show better long term performance as an alternative to oiled filters)

When even moderate performance modifications, such as fitting throttle bodies, require the fitting of oiled foam filters one should be aware of the requirements of regular maintenance and accept that the high flow generally also means less efficient filtering. Also the oil catches the dust, as it should, but then the accumulated dust and oil starts to block the filter.
