Unlike the Morgan our other two cars are all wheel drive vehicles. We fit winter tyres to the little Subaru (I call it the "shopping trolley") and the tyres on the Alfa are summer tyres but with a moderately aggressive tread. In snow the Alfa goes up hill ok. The problem is coming back down again. It has to be very slowly, no braking unless absolutely necessary and even then with great care. It can get quite exciting. Actually it is better when the snow is deeper. I do carry chains but until now have not tried them. If I know I have to go anywhere on a snowy road I take the "shopping trolley" with the winter tyres fitted.
I thought this video very interesting.
Obviously an AWD vehicle fitted with winter tyres is going to be even better than the results they had in this test.
