Bud - my only experience is with rear mounted batteries and I would guess that the fuse is there to protect the long main feed which runs forward to the terminal post in the top right hand corner of the dash. With your battery under the bonnet they may not have considered this necessary, but you'll still have the terminal post under the dash on the right, because that's where the loom splits into the main fuse box, so you may have the secondary fuse tucked away up there. Gymnastics with a torch should find it without removing the dash. Red wire in, brown wire out. (Brown wire may have a red tracer - can't remember!).
