Yes it did John and I hope that was it.
This was the place:
The red wire looks uncomfortable anyway, but was previously held tight in the S shape by a cable tie. I suspected a break in the cable but it appears not to be the case. I've also added a rubber cover because the solenoid 12v live feed stud is exposed there. What's also interesting is that the thin almost vertical wire which is white and green at the top, was making a bad connection and it may have been this one which was the problem. I can move it around now and there's no cough so unless it recurs later, that was it.
