More interesting data in the Guardian today about the supposed 'Green Penalty' being to blame for Port Talbot's woes by the anti-EU lobby.
Far from being 'crippling green taxes' it emerges in research by the UK Energy Research Centre that actually the carbon taxes represent only around 1% of Port Talbot's operating costs, and furthermore thanks to the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, Port Talbot received over £239m over the period 2008-2014.
So the EU and its Green policies have been helping, not hindering Port Talbot.
What's behind the issues at Port Talbot? The dumping of Chinese steel and the global demand reduction are the most important of course, but also their life has not been made easier by the UK's highly privatised energy industry. So there you go, more anti-EU myths laid to rest.
