My experience is that I have had the original, the grease nippled and the Centa compensators but have only had the belt jump teeth when the tension has been set too low (an experiment after reading various statements to the effect that the MMC specified tension was too tight) and when the rear spindle had been inadequately tightened leading to the same loss of tension. Both times it was very apparent that something had jumped, the gunshot sound being the dead giveaway. Overly tentative take off from rest can lead to clattering as the Centa loads and unloads but not as badly as with the earlier compensators.
