I would have to agree with your view on the difference between English and German workers. I have German family (my German niece is staying with me right now) and I spend at least a month every year in Germany and have done as long as I can remember. I think your view is spot on. Germans seem much more conscientious about their work than the British. I know, as you say that is a sweeping generalisation BUT on the whole that is my experience.

That said, in the British's defence, the fact we tinker and try things differently to that told is what makes us more creative and that in itself is a real asset. It can be no coincidence most of the F1 cars are built in the UK. When a problem presents itself (as often did in war - WWII), the British can excel in their creativity for a solution.

Horses for courses. The world is a better place for the Germans and the British and often the meeting of the two can produce great things when coupling creativity with quality. If I'm not mistaken the original Spitfire was actually a coupling of minds between the Germans and the British - The Supermarine water race aircraft pre WWII.
