I doubt the Morgan is a write off - the factory have the facilities to repair that / rebuild on a different chassis with the same mechanicals. The campervan doesnt look to have much damage and likely is being written off because its old and not worth much. In short the story looks to me like a bit of journalese drama making.
I did a test with one of the Morgan test drivers in an Aero a while ago, and he certainly didnt hold back. I'm no shrinking violet but the speeds he hit in restricted areas werent on.
