Been there, had that rofl

"The first time I was offered an "extended warranty" was on a Fridge/Freezer in Rumbelows in 1987. I declined but instead set up a dedicated account in the Sussex County Building Society and paid the equivalent premium into that. Over the following years I added to the payments as we bought more electrical goods until I'd amassed £2,000, at which point I froze the account.

In 30 years the only claim I could ever have made was in 1999 for a VHS player, which cost me around £100 to replace (covered by the interest on the £2K). I estimate that in the same time by not buying warranties I have saved myself around £6,000 - more than all my electrical items are currently worth"

... is a speech that I have given to many a Currys sales assistant.

We also avoid them for the same reason. The dishwasher was over 6 years old so owed us nothing vs such warranty costs.
