A great example of what you outline there is Channel 4 on-line. They have taken the time to promote a number of series by a curator called Walter Presents. They are crime/drama programs from other countries with english subtitles. They can be reached through All4 on SmartTV, Web and iThings applications.
Over christmas we had hours watching this prior to anything on the Sky or DVB channels because of the quality of the programming.
I just get hacked off paying the TV Licence fee. I am sad to say it needs to change. Let the BBC go to advertisment or other funding.
