I cant bring myself to junk the current large lounge TV whilst its working perfectly. As it happens, its two foot away from the incoming internet socket and we have a download speed of 39mb/s which I believe should be OK for TV. So the question is what sort of box do I put beteween the router and the current TV to allow me to watch programs off the internet.
You don't need to record anything. Everything you want is already stored, it's the internet.
Without seeing exactly what equipment you have, it's hard to give hard and fast advice - but here goes....
It doesn't matter how close your TV is to the internet socket, this will be via your home wifi. Take a look at Amazon Firestick - streaming TV from the internet. A small gadget plugs into the back of your TV and also a mains plug. This gadget picks up your home wifi - and voila, streaming TV.
Apple TV is another... Google Chromecast yet another...and Roku.... there are quite a few. They will all comprise of a 'stick' which goes in the back of the TV which hooks up to the internet by connecting to your router.
Just look up 'streaming TV' and you'll find it all.
You can then chuck your satellite dish and/or aerial and be on the web. Hi def YouTube stuff too of course - all on your TV.
