Thanks Richard, your comments confirm my understanding of normal practice.
however on my Duratec powered Plus 4 there is no control valve in the heater water circuit.
The heater does not seem to have a seperate water circuit as several of the normally independent Duratec coolant flow circuits seem to have been combined in this case.
