I can see the need for EV in cities and densely populated areas to improve air quality as these are the locations that are where it would be effective and measurable. The current case of prosecuting the government after a girl died of asthma with the air pollution near her home is an interesting sideshow related to his.
I also think the long term issues of battery life and disposal are being sidelined, as was diesel particulate a few years ago.
I still think hydrogen would potentially be a good move as it could utilise current distribution methods. Cracking water to produce it seems the economic barrier at the moment but what is being done under the radar?
In my case going EV is not financially viable due to initial cost, payback time on fuel use, depreciation and battery life/disposal.
I had a look at a Kia Nero........
£33k purchase plus about £600 estimate for charging equipment at home (negotiable.). Finance? Purchase a risk. PCP? Is that a track I want to go down?
EV would be ok for our current driving usage but low-ish mileage so mpg payback is extended. What happens value wise in 5 years? The cashflow calculations don’t add up at the moment.
