I also believe that hydrogen can be the future. It is the case with us that battery cars are being produced and subsidised at all costs under very great political pressure. Only the day before yesterday the first battery VW ID.3 came off the assembly line in a VW factory in East Germany. Merkel was there. VW is a half government company with rather opaque and mafia-like structures.
Nobody of the politicians cares whether battery cars are really suitable for mass production (and mass usage). But there have been enormous incentives brim buying electric cars released yesterday. Anyway most people don't want electric cars at least until now. The infrastructure and logistics are missing. It is handled with the crowbar. At the end comes the big frustration.
The worst thing is that politicians are not interested in other solutions such as hydrogen cars. Everything is directed or should I say dictated. But in the end the free market decides whether products are attractive and whether they will prove themselves.
Meanwhile it is so crazy in Germany that underway at the charging stations electricity costs more to drive 100 km than if you refuel diesel or gasoline for the same distance.
Yes , somehow once the ball starts rolling for a particular fuel the Politicians get inflexible which causes wrong decision making for years ...
