Can you get access to a CVH engined car to take a look?
Out 1985 car (sold on in Dec-13) had an electric fan mounted on the engine side of the radiator. Sadly I cannot remember how it was mounted. Definitely not the ‘pull through’ fixing. I think the later ones had the mountings built in to the radiator itself.
