Filtering the the fuel coming out of the tank would be my first concern since but the fuel pump is at the mercy of whatever you pumped into the tank.
I ground tanks are a mystery until the government forces an inspection. All sorts of crud reside in those tanks and if you pump fuel while or soon after a fuel delivery then crud will be in your tank.
