Nobody (apart maybe from the Daily Mail and associated readers) have talked about obliterating history.
It's a convenient dog-whistle for the right wing, though.
Rather than seeking to obliterate our history, I see a lot of effort currently to show the truth of our history and the effect it had on other cultures, and chucking the statue of Colston in the harbour has led to more people finding out the truth of our involvement in the slave trade.
I have seen some pretty ludicrous attempts to defend Colston on the basis that we shouldn't apply today's values to the past - as if nobody back then saw any problem with slavery. Apart from the always-active Abolitionist movement, that is. And presumably the 12 million people enslaved and transported across the Atlantic from Africa. I can't imagine them being big fans of the policy.
As for Churchill, How many of his fans are aware of the contribution his government's policies made to the Bengal famine of 1943?
