Here's an interesting little picture. The 3 squares below represent the total area of North Africa that would be needed to be covered in solar panels to meet the needs of the entire world, the EU, and Germany respectively.

Also interesting to see that the government has conceded that renewable energy is 30 to 50% cheaper than previously thought.

Hopefully our 2x4Kw setup with 2 x 7KWh batteries will provide a good deal of our energy requirements, I can't see electricity getting any cheaper in the future despite the falling costs of renewables.
