To clarify, what I’m describing as a dry sump system is where the engine oil isn’t stored in the crankcase as with a wet sump. As rcmatt wrote that the softail oil tank is under the seat, while on other models it’s under the transmission and separated from the crackcase.
rockabillyjohn; I was writing about the power output torque spikes from the 45 degree layout sharing a common crank pin resulting in Harley fitting a compensator on their bikes.
The Harley engine use suggestion was based on availability, emission compliance (US EPA), expected EU5 compliance, minor modification to the current M3W resulting in a quicker transition time from the current M3W, and traditional V-Twin layout.
Per the caranddriver article:
We're also assured it will be launching a new three-wheeled model after what we're told will be a brief gap, one that will be fully type approved for the U.S.The BMW R18 engine out front would be interesting, but I wonder that since BMW has just introduced their R18 motorcycle (with the expected initial high demand a new model gets) if they would have extra engines to sell to Morgan? With BMW, I can see that happening, and it is already EU5 & EPA compliant. I also think that the R18 engine would be a better engine in function than the M8, plus the BMW gearbox would and reverse (as optional on the bike).
What ever the next gen M3W will be, I imagine it is already being driven around and under going testing if the caranddriver article is to be believed (
brief gap).
