There are many reasons why folk buy into the idea of owning a Porsche.. The kiss principal was high on my list when I bought my first Porsche a 912, it was found to be as suspected, Beetle build quality and reliability in a sports car monocoque, that was back in the seventies. Two 911`s followed on as I was hooked for a decade or two. Now after a twenty year break I am back in a 911 derivative in the form of a 991.1.
When I decided to buy a tin top sports car again, the first car that came to mind was an air cooled 911, the last of which I sold for £11k around the turn of the century, such was the market a year ago that I could have paid £40-60k to buy the same car I sold back in the late 90`s... No amount of man maths could justify that evaluation to me.... I could well remember repairing the effects of slight corrosion on my Porsche back then, now 20 years on...!
Having researched water cooled Porsches, I was disappointed to read of issues that did not do anything to rekindle fondness for the marque, add to that my digital delusions relating to all sorts of unnecessary circuitry just bound to incorporate more complexity in maintenance and repair, thus to buy back into Porsche with some degree of confidence on a then 9 year old Porsche that looked as good as new, I felt I also had to buy into the Porsche extended warranty plan which is in effect a 3 year insurance plan covering manufacturers defects and covers cars up to 15 years old and I think 140k miles...
There are lots of reasons why folk buy Porsche 911 derivatives many of which are covered in this vid, and which seems to have covered most of the reasons I bought back in too..!
