The cynic in me thinks as this might affect as many as 3% of production, and that there were rumours of a class action in the US, perhaps spawned the Porsche extended warranty insurance scheme for Porsches up to 15 years old and something like a max of 150K miles which customers could buy into..... I sure did, despite that the widely reported issue was resolved at least one model year before my 991, not that it is totally free of issues that can bug me..but then I am a grumpy old man.. smile oldgit


Given that Porche was founded by a card carrying Nazi and convicted war criminal who was one of Adolf's chosen weapons designers, you can be sure that Porche have years of experience of hiding nasty smells.

But leaving that aside, their response is a sensible business one. Customers now are hesitant because they fear collapsing resale values as local authorities compete in vitrue signalling anti car restrictions. Porche have enough sense to realise that whilst the western countries will impose restrictions sooner or later, most of the world will only be too happy to buy a second hand 911 at a discount posts 2030 0r evenb 2050. Its a no brainer.
