MMC is “sacrificing” the ££££ they can get for personalising. A bit like a loss leader that supermarkets use.
Psychologically, you get the Colour discounts but then think “ I can spend that saving on other extras!”.
MMC get a sale and keep the factory ticking over by grabbing extra sales to fill quiet periods. It’s simple marketing behaviour used by many industries.
It can, however, tip the scales for someone on the edge of ordering to take the plunge.
Another ploy is Special Editions. Limited number of cars with specific design differences. It can also be used to clear out stocks of components.
