It’s a 1970 Plus 8 - chassis number 300 and was completely rebuilt at the factory from the chassis up. Mostly to original specification, but whilst the wings are the original steel over wire, the wooden frame is all new and all the other panels are aluminium. It was re-trimmed in the original plastic material, I can’t remember what it’s called, as I didn’t want leather which the MMC guys were keen to fit. Luckily they found a roll of the correct material in the trim shop store.

I do warn you now that the clutch is pretty heavy, the original Moss-box works well and the steering is fine as I had power steering fitted. The exhaust was built by the original guy whose firm, that he sold, built the boxes in the day. It looks and sounds just like a 1970 Plus 8 and is a lovely old girl! Getting in and out is not the easiest, as the original short doors don’t give much room for old less flexible limbs.

As regards costs, I bought it off Steve Morris who I know had bought it from Melvyn Rutter - as regards build costs I did start keeping them on a spreadsheet but when costs started rising decided to just proceed and enjoy the experience!! From time to time I feel that I should sell it, but a quick drive means it’s still in the stable…

Cheers
Brian
