Age is far less important (I keep telling myself that!)
I drove loads of all ages before I decided. I do 2K miles per year purely for pleasure so 'Useability' was less important. I settled on a restored '79 4/4 with a x-flow (kent) engine. I love it, very involving (Far better then my Fathers '98 4/4 but not as fast)
I do very basic maintainence purely for pleasure, oil changes etc. The greasing bit is the quickest, literally a 20 min job when you know where everything else is (It's in the manual). It gets a once a year check over from Techniques who MOT it at the same time.
Had it 10 years now and it's just about to do it's 3rd trip to Le Mans 24 hrs with the 'Flying Flockers'. A trip not to be missed!
