Dave, out of curiosity, did you both have the jab at the same visit? I had mine on Saturday and Mrs A drove but was too young (69) to have one offered.

I think death rates will be more accurately judged when things settle. I do believe that other countries have different and highly misleading methods of reporting Covid data. We may find things are actually worse in many other countries, but our data reporting is more accurate than most.
If you didn't like BJ before Covid, then you probably think he is incompetent anyway. Personally, I think he will be judged in a kinder light by the majority of people when this is all over.
He has certainly done his ratings no harm with the speed of the vaccine roll. out, that is for sure.

We had similar Reg. An email each asking for basic personal details as a pre-empt to vaccination appointment. Then within seven days a phone call suggesting they had spare slots and would we like to be vaccinated later that day, an offer we couldn't refuse. We were surprised given we were both in our 70's and thought they hadn't completed the 80's category yet, but the short notice and late appointment does suggest we were randomly picked to use up the days vaccine leftovers.

Said it at the begining and happy to say it again (and happy to eat humble-pie if proved wrong🙂) .... but, when the political shouty stuff is over and the real experts have analysed the pandemic ... I would bet that demographics and personal health profiles (with some social/cultural input and some geographical good luck round the edges) will prove to have had a far greater influence on a given nation's pandemic impact than any actions taken by governments. (vaccines excepted as they are what will ultimately bring this under some sort of control )

The fact that numerous developed countries, highly organised and with world leading universal healthcare have suffered so badly .... while many developing countries with none of the above have had tiny death rates with no governmental intervention to speak of seems counter-intuitive

Play politics all you want, but I for one am expecting the real scientific analysis to be fascinating ... and maybe disquieting for western lifestyles.

It will be interesting to see what factors influence the ability of a given society to respond better than another to the pandemic. Early research seems to indicate obesity and diabetes increasing incidence of contracting Covid, and the UK has a massive obesity and diabetes affected population. A research article from the USA over the summer seemed to suggest that blood type whether positive or negative influenced your likelihood of greater or lesser potential for exposure to Covid.

I am inclined to agree with you but add one important issue and that is of a compliant and obedient culture. In the far east where kids are brought up to have responsibility towards their group, their society and to obey instructions its much easier the shepherd people into following a course of action. Here in the west where importance is attached to individualism and personal freedom, its much more difficult. But even here, you can see the difference between the much more ordered society of Germany and the disorganised one of the UK. The issue then is not the actions taken by governments but the observance of the actions taken by governments.
