So for some months now my Plus 4 has produced a Rubbing sound when cornering right.
I have looked at all sorts of things trying to find the cause, or even evidence of something to no avail.
Even had the front nearside wheel bearing changed!

Well this week I jacked up the front as far as I could and put it on axel stands, crawled underneath and eventually spotted that near the rear of the gear box approx underneath the gear shift there is a bracket to support the back of gearbox before the UJ and the two bolts were missing. When cornering the whole engine & gear box would move sideways!

One bolt was stil lying in the bracket after 100s of miles so that has gone back in with some loctight the other I will have to replace but it is in a p#g of place you cant get at.

Well spotted and quite scary. Lucky there was no damage. Good luck fitting that second gearbox bolt.

I appreciate it is some extra work but it might be easier to take out the seats and the transmission tunnel and work from inside the car?

A good point, especially if you're going to change the gearbox oil at the same time, and get at that grease nipple. Also an opportunity to deep clean the underseat carpets/area, and treat the woodwork if your minded.

Or as you can see into the tunnel then cut an access hole

.

No witness marks that there's ever been a bolt fitted to that, which is a bit worrying...

As access is tight, you could try threading a bolt or length of studding from above & than lock off with a nut below perhaps

When all nipped up it might be worth checking engine mounts Tim. There would have been considerable leverage on them from loose gearbox.
