Has anyone fitted the Morgan Park steering wheel offset ring?

I recently fitted a smaller diameter (thick rim) 13" wood Moto Lita (down from 14") which has proved to be a fantastic upgrade.



The only disadvantage being the wheel rim now obscures the 2,500 - 5,500rpm area on the tacho, the engine speed window I use a lot

The Morgan Park steering wheel offset ring looks like it'll solve the issue, but I'm keen to hear feedback from anyone who's fitted it?

I guess in use the adapter is no different to having an offset steering wheel.

FWIW I too have a "13 inch" MotoLita steering wheel which despite having the thick wood rim option doesn't obscure any instruments - mainly because there aren't any there except for a Smiths clock.

I note the median diameter is only around 12¼ inches BTW, but with power steering don't find it too small even in looks.

The smaller size definitely gives quicker and more direct feeling steering, and thicker rim gives both improved grip/purchase, the end result is seemingly more leverage... so despite the smaller diameter the steering actually also feels lighter!

Back to the original topic, surely the offset ring will place the steering wheel off centre from the centre line of the steering colum, I would assume this means the wheel will rise and fall in my hands as I rotate it from lock to lock?

This is why I'm interested in feedback from anyone who's fitted the Morgan Park offset ring

Yes it would, as would the offset wheel that Moto-Lita offer

So my ultimate question is.... will this feel horrible, or does one mentally adjust to it?

Not sure how that helps with my partially obscured rev counter???

Not an ideal solution, but I know of someone who swapped positions of the speedo and rev counter; wiring was long enough in his case with a similar year car. Does mean though that your speed vision is then compromised unless you back it up with a gps speedo.
Think you would only find the offset a bit strange if negotiating hair pin bends at speed. As I know you like a bit of track work and hill climbs, it may not be ideal for you.

TBH I like the the rev counter right on front of me, it's another reason I like the port injected Duratec Trad, for this reason swapping with the speedo is not an option for me, I have however considered rotating the tacho, but at the end of the day I'm always going to lose sight of an element of the gauge.

I am concerned about oscillation when rotating the wheel, however, it's my experience that sometimes the brain adjusts to this type of thing, so in practice it may not be the issue we're assuming it would be.

I'm open minded, so I really need to try it

Anyway, the Morgan Park offset ring can wait, I have RPM on my phone via Bluetooth connection to my EMU Black ECU, and I tend to change up on engine sound anyway.

The next step is actually a faster rack, my Mulfab front wishbone conversion uses a 2.7 turns lock to lock rack which is faster than a normal Morgan rack, it works great but because Peter Mulberry used MK1/2 Escort rack I have lots of ratio options.

I want to try a faster rack to help me catch Monty's tail on Pardon, and I have a feeling a 2.4 turns lock to lock Escort fast rack will be perfect

Not horrible at all. During normal driving you hardly notice it, except for better visibility of the instruments and more room for your thighs. But when parking or in a sharp turn the rim of course moves closer to your thighs. However, I consider this a small price to pay for the advantages mentioned above. Also noticeably easier to get in and out. I have the Moto-Lita wheel, aproximately one inch offset.
