When did fish and chips not become a cheap meal for the family. Last night swmbo fancied fish and chips, not something we usually have. Local chip shop visited for a cheap takeaway WOW medium Cod £8 each, medium chips £2.70. No wonder there wasn't a queue

Scrolling down that page I see they also offer salted shirgar. I often wonder what became of him but frankly I'm surprised there's much of him left.

We had Fish and Chips at Krispies in Exmouth 3 weeks ago at our RM Reunion, very tasty. Our local British Chippie (40 minute drive away) has Cod and Chips with Mushy Peas for $15 which translates to GBP11.56.

I wish our local chippy was that cheap Keith. Portions do tend to be huge though wink

Since I live in the town where Moto Guzzi motorbikes are built I guess I would have to say "Yes. They are very interesting bikes".
Yes, Gambalunga is also the name of the Moto Guzzi GB club magazine but that has little relevance to my choice of user name.

€2.49 when somewhat regularly on special offer !! The choice of brands seems unlimited and sure the region cannot produce all that is on the market.. Unfortunately a Morgan might struggle with the amount we bring back….always legal quantities!
Italy is full of great wine areas, but perhaps we should discuss that in a different thread.

Would be interested to know of gourmet pies sold in chippies or is this just an Aussie or NZ thing ?

I have never bought a pie in a fish and chip shop. There are some great pies to be had in Australia and some of the best are sold by street vendors with vans. A pie floater with mushy peas from Harry's Cafe de Wheels is hard to beat.

In Wisconsin a Friday night fish fry is very popular. One Friday I decided to make my own. Fried lake perch, homemade potatoe pancakes with apple sauce, cole slaw, rye bread, and homemade tartar sauce. Usually have a beer or a Bloody Mary with my fish fry but that night a glass of wine. Would usually pay $17-$18 U.S. at our local pub for a fried perch dinner similar to what I made. Nothing like a Friday night fish fry!

We always used to make the trip over to Cleethorpes for fish and chips when we were back up north. Haven't been for ages though.

After 34 years in the south, and with no real need to be here anymore, we're very seriously looking at making the move back up to Yorkshire........

I'm sure these Sunday Times "best of" are "paid for to appear in the list". Can't recall the names, must be four or five years since we were there, but there are some wonderful F&C establishments in and around Whitby and Scarborough.

Time to go back there, methinks lurk

Our go to Fish & Chip shop is Krispies in Exeter Road, Exmouth.
Awarded Fish & Chip Shop of the year in 2019.

They now have two other locations, neither of which we have tried.
