Hairdryer in the air intake................????????

My Gilbern Invader suffered terrible icing in winter "at speed".
At 70, the heater stopped working, then the power slowly ebbed, once the roadspeed dropped to about 40, the heater came through, and the power returned. On winter days when it was frosty I didn't see more than 12mpg on short trips...............
