That's very wrong. Traditionally it's like this:

Family car drivers glance down to check if they're going too fast:



Sports car drivers glance down to check on engine revs




Now, getting water temp and fuel indicators in front of your eyes is simply not how it's supposed to be.

Unless this is a special "Paris-Dakar Edition" car and indeed fuel and water are this Morgan's drivers main concerns.
