So i have spent alot of the past few days researching Chain systems. With the help of Dave G's guidance and contributions from others I hope to get a chain system up and running on my 3W soon. It should be an interesting project.

I cannot see any possibility for a derailleur because this requires a chain with lateral flexibility. This is why bicycle chains break so easily. On the subject of lateral flexibility, one of my first checks before i get cracking in earnest is to check the amount of torque effect on the bevel box. If it twists too much then a chain system will be harder to implement.
I hope to make it possible to replace the toothed part of the sprocket which will also enable ratio flexibility a la nippymog's suggestion 17/03/15 10:02 AM.
will investigate automatic oilers later as they seem to be easy to retrofit.
enclosed chain guard seems sensible. Need to investigate space and mounting options
If you have any metallurgy experience and can give me PM'd advice on steel grade, anodizing and hardening specifications that would be appreciated. There is of course lots of information on this from manufacturers, but they all seem to do it differently.
