Of course. The EU - as it currently stands - exists to facilitate German exports not just within the EU but globally using the subterfuge of a Euro exchange rate that is much lower than an equivalent sovereign German currency.

All the time Germany holds the EU reins, it will tolerate cheap steel imports for its carmakers and won't rock the trade tariff boat with export markets like China.

It's the reason I want out of the EU. The single currency and 'ever closer union' are Germany's attempt to achieve through economic means what it was unable to gain through previous military efforts. I have admiration for how Germany has brought this about - but want a UK Government that puts UK citizens first.

but it is also why Germany will fight tooth and nail to keep the UK in and will punish us if we have the temerity to go.

We are seen by Germany as a sound "Germanic" nation, so helping Germany keep the unruly Latins under control!!
