As far as Nationalisation is concerned I find it strange that the same people that decry Nationalisation for industry are fighting hard to keep the NHS from privatisation.
Although full nationalisation is probably not the right answer for industries which must operate in a competitive commercial environment, I see no reason why the government could not have a significant shareholding in a strategic industry in order to ensure it operates in the best long-term interests of the people of the UK.
It seems bizarre to me that the core infrastructure (power, water, telecommunications etc) of our country has been sold off to foreign companies, and is now effectively outwith our control.
