I've observed goings on from close quarters over the last six years and being responsible for the club is not something I would want. It's certainly true that club officers bring with them their life skills. It's also a fact that as a director of MSCC you would do your best to make it a success and cover the potential liabilities. That's a common goal across all the officials.
But being a volunteer makes it different. On a recent RNLI documentary, a volunteer said that "you couldn't pay me enough to justify these risks".
The vice chairman job is vacant at the AGM on rotation. It's a six year commitment. How many applicants will we get?
Well be lucky to get one. And yet MSCC is expected to carry on. It does so with fewer volunteers doing even more jobs.
