There are some clues as to evolution if I stand back and speculate.
Front suspension.......
Suplex to keep the sliding pillar.
Mulfab style alternative.
Rear suspension.....
5-link replacing leafsprings.
These keep the current chassis style.
Emissions....
Electric/hybrid already under development with grants obtained. Use modern engines.
Pedestrian protection.....
Front of car is more critical so,
No signs yet of streamlining the front of the car towards Aero8 style. The headlamp cowls are a glaring pedestrian smasher and may need recessing.
Wingtop sidelights are already an aftermarket so one box ticked. Door handles recessed next?
Windscreen......
More rake needed. Do away with trad hood due to the studs protruding. How many pedestrians get thrown up to bonnet/windscreen when hit head on?
Underneath......
Lots of "sticky out "bits to carve up a pedestrian run over! Look at the rebound spring area! Little or no undertray. Lots of long bolts sticking out!
Occupant safety......
Make room for airbags.....how? Change dimensions somehow?
At some stage these factors will be legislated on. Morgan are in the area of not small enough to gain exemptions. Caterham? Similarly affected.
There have been speculative redesign concepts for Lotus 7 style bandied about the kit world for a while.
I feel the days of the current trad are limited both from a future legislative trend and the potential customer profile wanting hands off modern driving.
