In the USA to pay in a cheque you simply go to your bank's on line banking portal, photograph or scan an image of the cheque and send the image with the credit details. You have to keep the paper cheque for some months in case the bank requests you mail it in, but usually the payment clears within 12 hours.
Why can't we do something similar here?
Why bother to write something out, then scan it then use the internet to send it to your bank when you can use the internet directly plus BACS?
Anywa, be that as it may, the banks bar RBS are commercial businesses and its up to them what service they offer customers. Particularly when UK retail banking is free.
