Just after completing my apprenticeship I was told that I must have my salary paid into a bank. I did not have a bank account. I got one and found that I had to pay to get my own money out. I kicked up a stink. It looks like we could be heading back to that situation. I will always use cash for moderate purchases to keep the usage up. Of course most of us on here are financially comfortable. Having in the past being unemployed for 9 months with two young sons to look after on my own with a £600 a month mortgage to service I appreciate the plight of the "poor" who may be do not have a bank account and the loss of a few pounds can be very serious.
