The world doesn't have a population problem, it has a consumption problem and an education problem. Birth rates naturally fall off as people's standard of living and educational level rises.

What is happening at the moment is that we have a massive imbalance of consumption both in terms of physical goods and intellectual resources. The 'developed' world is consuming resources at such a rate that we need 4 Earths to sustain it.
