The disparity between our current generation capacity and the overwhelmingly larger energy sources we're committing to eliminating in shorter and shorter timescales looks insurmountable when you factor in the sheer volume of generating capacity and infrastructure that needs planning and building from scratch in short order.
If these targets are to be met then we're looking at draconian restrictions on all facets of our lives that make our recent lockdowns look like party-time .... which means that in reality they're unlikely to be met under any system short of full military dictatorship

I don't think people are at present really aware of the full implications of a zero emissions economy. Conservatively electricity demand is expected to double by 2050, it cannot be a case of escalating prices being the sole driver down of demand as it affects and disenfranchises the poorest in society the most. Its only a matter of time IMHO before people may be allocated a fixed annual energy budget and have to live within it. The alternative impact of rebuilding our infrastructure is too great to contemplate by comparison.
