No way. Global warming is real and is more important than having diesel and petrol vehicles. As for the cost of them - well we have wall to wall congestion because cars are now too cheap. I see three bedroom boxes with 4 cars parked on the pavement outside - maybe the ban will reduce that problem.
Continually using price mechanisms to curb demand is not sustainable long term, it doesn't change the behaviour of those who can afford to absorb the increased cost, it affects and disenfranchises the poorer in society. It could lead to civil unrest, rioting and targeting of those more fortunate to absorb the zero emissions economy impacts.....not a world I would want to be a party to. We need an inclusive way forward that does not disadvantage a major part of society that cant afford the necessary changes to achieve zero emissions.
