JIT requires components to make many journeys (some long) before final assembly. Surely a more localised supply chain would eliminate this?
I think the days of rampant moneymaking may have peaked although business will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the new era.

The carbon footprint of JIT going forward is going to be under much closer examination and scrutiny, I believe a mini crankshaft crosses the channel 3 times before its installed in an engine.......all processes the UK is capable of and used to produce/manufacture/assemble. A key factor is whether battery production (as planned) stays in the UK. The German car industry took a long hard look at the possibility of relocating to UK post Brexit. Relocating production to China seems to be their current preference, even at the expense of German jobs.
