or do as Callum says just remove the plug leads and then crank it over.
Unless you have a non S&S ECU then there's no need to disconnect plug leads etc to turn the engine over without starting. Just depress the accelerator then hit the start button. The engine will turn over but ECU will not allow the engine to fire unless the throttle is closed.
