Bit of a gruelller reading this thread, but the conflict between modern day quality expectectations and the problems faced by a low volume manufacturer with a minimal R &D budget is a recurring theme on TM that clearly polarises opinion.
We have to manage our expectations compared to volume manufacturers, but it seems to me where MMC are missing a trick is failing to capitalise on the goodwill and feedback from owners.
We dont expect them to spend millions designing gear knobs or wing mirrors, but maybe what they should be doing is actively seeking feedback from a valuable free resource - us.
We are not BMW owners who can simply buy an Audi next time if we are not satisfied with our M3,
We all want MMC to succeed and improve on our favourite marque.
Where a possible design flaw or poorly engineered component is identified, why can't the factory recognise and act upon this on an ongoing basis.
There will be some cost in making improvements, but the cost of alienating new customers by ignoring easily remedied niggles or faults is surely greater.
Is it not possible to filter and collate genuine quality issues or sensible improvement recommendations by TM owners that could be fed to and considered by MMC?
If they deem it appropriate, maybe the moderators who have a line to MMC management might be willing to ask if the appropriate MMC manager might like to receive this information.
