Desperately frustrating when things like this happen, hopefully it will just be the rectifier, as you suspect the alternator is deeply buried between the engine and cush drive - see the photo posted a couple of pages back in this thread.
Does this mean that my M3W is all alone in Aberdeen now? I had been told that there was another one around here somewhere but never got to see it.
Apologies if it seems like rubbing salt in the wounds but I had a great run yesterday up to Tomintoul and back over the corner of the Cairngorms.
