At those kind of rates, 30k for a 4/4 Sport looks like a complete bargain IMO.
I thought that point was very well made by Richard Hamster in his review of the new Plus 8 in the Mirror. The 4/4 clearly is a real bargain for a handmade car. However, once you start getting up to the models selling for £80 to £100 grand the quality control thing is much more of an issue. Both Lotus (in the 70's) and TVR found that when they tried to go upmarket that buyers become less tolerant of 'foibles'. When the Griffith was launched it was considerably less than half the price of a 911. Buyers didn't care tuppence that they smelt of glue, that the hood leaked a bit, or that bits fell off every now and again, because it looked great, went like stink and sounded like thunder, all for a bargain price. Once TVR started building their own engines & the prices crept up to over BMW M3 territory the punters became a lot less understanding.
