My cracks were in the brackets supporting the tank at the front, others have had them both here and the brackets under the tank towards the rear. As this crack is in the bracket attached to the tank it is potentially not a petrol leak source ( your question) , but is important to stop your tanks becoming potentially loose or vibrating potentially causing a leak !

Would it make sense to put rubber bands as extra help for the spanner bands ?


Possibly , I put thin strips of wood ( about 3mm thick ) between the tank and bands to space the bands out so i could really get the band tension higher and grip the tanks better. Without this mine wouldnt tension up enough.
As a longer term solution I am considering a fabricated steel frame to support the alloy tanks, bolted to the chassis, but just ideas at this stage.
