My Porsche 997 2S bought brand new had loads of little and one big fault (that was never fixed).
I shouted and screamed at the Porsche garage, had the car thrashed by them (to check it was safe!) and damaged by them (a ding in the door), returned several times and was then told 'they all do that' which was simply untrue. They ordered the wrong parts despite the glitzy showroom, and couldn't replace some of the trim that was really badly fitted, including the whole top of the dashboard, without making things worse. The air-con packed up and I was charged £700 after 2,000 miles because it was caused by 'a stone'. Oh yeah, maybe.
I struggled to enjoy my disappointing perfect car (and it was rather a dull drive most of the time, with imperfect front end damping and a tendency to steer badly on cambers), and found it rather boring to drive unless I was going too fast.
I traded the car in for a new Morgan Aero 8, had lots of little problems (now all resolved) and have now bought a M3W to add to the fleet, have had lots of little problems and a couple of slightly bigger ones (some still not resolved but haven't had anything too major yet) but have never regretted selling the Porsche for one minute, love the Aero to bits, and have not regretted buying the M3W one jot. I regard myself as 'balanced' when it comes to ownership of a low volume unusual car, just as happier TVR owners, Noble owners, Mclaren owners etc. no doubt have to be. I want my cars to be as good as possible but don't want to get too angry if things take time to resolve. I have the wife and children to beat when I am really frustrated.
My lovely local Morgan garage (BHM) always does their best and usually succesfully! They can be a bit slow (if they see this they'll know why I am saying this) but I love them all to bits, and accept that I will visit them more with a Morgan than a Ford.
If anyone really expects the M3W to be perfect perhaps they should buy a Porsche and enjoy being miserable owning that...
The faults will gradually be resolved and we should make a fuss about some of the issues, but be reasonable too, or there will be no choice available to buy vehicles like this. Plenty of bureaucrats would love to legislate the M3W off the road.
Sorry - had enough of the ping-pong about 'rose-tints' versus 'seeing red'. Both have a point of view, and neither is wrong or right, any more than if we started to debate left-wing versus right-wing politics - we'd not get very far with that I fear. Perish the thought...
I totally sympathise with Q8morgan - all I can say is good luck - mine has not broken down in 2,500 miles although needed an exhaust bracket replaced recently so I'd get some rubber bits as well as a spare inner tube or two for the tyres etc. Perhaps an email thread asking what spares you'd need (we've had something similar before for some chap who drove through Europe) which you could get in advance would be a good idea. And then check the car over every now and then to make sure nothing is about to fall off!!!
Most of all - enjoy the experience. And don't let possible issues going forward put you off. If this was the case, no-one would get married or have children. Thank God for lust.
